Pollinator Advocate Award 2005

Pollinator Advocate Award recipients Merlyn Carlson, USDA NRCS (for Bruce Knight); Rogel Villanueva, El Colegio de la Frontera Sur (for Don Pedro Cahun Uh, Tihosuco, MX); Ann Bartuska, USDA Forest Service (for Dale Bosworth); and Ron Krystynak, Agricultural Counselor for the Canadian Embassy [with Laurie Adams, Paul Growald and Kim Winter]

The Pollinator Advocate Award is presented to Don Pedro Cahun Uh of Tihosuco, Mexico by Rogel Villanueva. Sr. Cahun Uh received this award because of his innovative involvement and longtime practice of meliponiculture, using native stingless bees (Melipona) to produce honey and beeswax. These important native bees are rapidly disappearing from Southern Mexico due to deforestation for timber.
